Hood bag - good enough
TL;DR any photo tripod bag around 1 meter should do the trick
The official hood bag can be sourced from caterhamparts.co.uk. But at £170 / 200€ it's expensive for what it is.
Dimensions are provided by Caterham :
- LENGTH: 93CM
- DIAMETER: 13.5CM
Any photo tripod bag should be good enough. This one from Amazon has a diameter of 13cm and is available in 65, 80 and 100cm lengths. At 20€, that will do just fine.
The 100 cm version fits in the boot, no problem there.
I have modified mine by removing the internal lining and the ~5mm sheet of polyethylene padding to save space and weight. I've also added a Caterham Super 7 emblem.
It has been in the car permanently, keeping the roof well packed and protected from dust when not used.
Some bungee cords should be added to the hoops at the extemities to provide a proper way of securing it to the roll bar when we travel with luggage in the boot. It only happened once and the provided strap was not optimal.
Addition of November : Half-hood bag - good enough too.
With the purchase of the half-hood in October came the need for storage. As it's as thick as the full hood, I didn't feel like folding it on its width, and decided that I would only fold it three times on its length and have it laying flat in the boot when not in use.
To save weight, only one hood would be in the car and the other left home. While expected to offer protection from scratches, the bag is a dust cover more than anything.
I've found
that a 30x100cm drawstring pouch for a light microphone stand would a be
a good match. I got one for 3.40€ on Aliexpress and added the second Caterham Super 7 emblem I had bought previously. At 5€ a piece, the patch is worth more than the bag it's sewn on.
