Static Rally - British cars special edition
TL;DR not the best edition
This year the planning of the Static Rally in Wavre was scaled down from 12 to 6 editions. That's once a month rather than every other week.
We did attend the first one on April 20th as visitors as it was just the day after my crash. The "Seven" gang and their friends were already well aware of what happened, and that I was wondering whether I should have a 620R-type nosecone fitted or retain the original one.
After that, the desert... I didn't feel like attending without a car to show, so I skipped May, June and August events. From the pictures shared on Facebook, it seems like attendance was good, the dedicated "country of origin" themes worked well, and people also understood they were never a reason not to come if you were not in the theme. The list : German, Italian, cancer awareness, French, British, and American cars to conclude the year.
With my car back early in September, we were able to attend the British edition on September 21st.
I lost a bit of time installing my latest iteration of the 3D-printed adapter plate for the SPA design mirrors in the morning, and we reached the Static Rally around 10:30.
Contrary to the success and heat wave of the year prior, that was far from a huge success. Attendance was rather low; the Lotus club probably not contacted and the weather was not engaging at all.
As usual, we were there with 7 Sevens. Nothing like the 15 or so we had last year.
Mechanic Heritage, sponsor of the Static Rally, had their yearly open door. It's always a pleasure to visit their workshop, a real feast for the eyes. They were always happy to show us anything of interest to us.
With everyone leaving quite early, we left at 12:45 too. We had lunch mid way at "Tuning Burger", a place I hadn't visited for probably 20 years. It's a bar/burger joint with a heavy car tuning theme : "Sparco" chairs and a Porsche for a bar.
In such a decorum I wasn't shy about having my phone on the table to follow the Formula race live - without commentary it's a rather boring sport to be honest. As a few patrons were following the race on various news sites on their phone or watching my phone from afar, I thought it could have been a good alternative to the 80s music clips shown on the various TV screens.
As we were driving the kids to Normandy during the week-end of the last edition, we had to skip it too.
